Research progress on the correlation between blood⁃brain barrier and cerebral small vessel disease
Abstract
Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a leading cause of stoke and vascular dementia, and its pathogenesis remains unclear. Research on brain histopathology has identified that the blood⁃brain barrier plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of CSVD. This article reviews the research progress on the correlation between blood ⁃ brain barrier and CSVD from imaging biomarkers, blood biomarkers and pathophysiology, to provide ideas for better diagnosis and treatment of CSVD.
