Relationship among neurology, neuropathology and human brain banking

Abstract

The development of neurology depends on the brain autopsy and neuropathology. Human brain banking plays an important role in enhancing our understanding on brain morphology, brain function, brain development, and brain aging, as well as on understanding the pathogenesis of many neurological diseases. Current neuropathology will be able to reveal the new molecular targets for disease treatment. It brings neurology into a new era. The purpose of this article is to expatiate the history of neurology, the impact of neuropathology on the development of neurology, and the significance of human brain banking on the development of neurology. The opportunities and challenges of human brain banking in China are also discussed.
